Facts
With the global rise in energy-related CO2 emissions, heating homes and industries is becoming one of the biggest environmental and economic challenges - consuming up to 63% of total heating energy in the EU and 43% in the US. The impact on electricity prices caused by recent geopolitical events has only exacerbated this problem.
HPC has become increasingly important in various industries such as finance, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), scientific research, and others. The demand for these applications requires large amounts of computing power and consequently leads to a rapid increase in power consumption. According to recent estimates, Internet traffic doubles every 2.4 years and AI computing power doubles every 3.4 months, leading to increased global demand for data centers, which today already consume up to 200 TWh per year - equivalent to about 1% of global electricity consumption. Of this, around 40% is wasted in the form of waste heat, i.e. released into the atmosphere.
